How to Install a Conical Twin Screw Barrel

Before you start installing the Conical Twin Screw Barrel, it is important to understand the specifications and the dimension of the barrel. Choosing the correct screw barrel clearance will affect the quality of the finished product, since too high a clearance will result in low shear rate and bad plasticizing effect. It will also cause serious back-flow phenomenon, which will reduce output and increase residence time in the barrel. If the clearance is too small, the material will burn easily and the screws will scrape against the barrel.

Installation of conical twin screw barrel
The installation of conical twin screw barrel involves placing the screw in the correct position. You must remember to adjust the spacing according to the axial movement distance chart. The chart will show the distance between the end of the barrel and the gearbox of the extruder. To adjust the distance between the two screws, you should first rotate the right screw toward the small head of the barrel. Once the screw is correctly adjusted, you need to install the small head of the conical twin screw into the barrel's small end.
The screw barrel of the conical twin screw extruder has different sizes that you can choose from. The screw diameter ranges from ph35/75 to 110/220 mm. It is also important to consider the size of your extruder.

Dimensions
A conical twin screw barrel is used in the processing of PVC products. These barrels are designed to produce high output and long service life with better mixing and homogeneity. They can be customized according to the formulations of PVC materials. These barrels are available in different sizes, diameters, and materials.

The dimensions of a conical twin screw barrel are slightly different from those of a parallel twin screw barrel. For conical twin screw barrels, the axis is intersecting and the length is shorter than the diameter. This design allows for various screw configurations. This design is very flexible and is highly versatile.

Barrelize conical twin screw has a smaller diameter at the small end and a larger diameter at the large end. In contrast, a parallel twin screw has a diameter that is the same as the outer diameter of the screw. This difference in diameter is measured in the L/D ratio of the effective part to the outer circle of the screw.

Reference point
Before installing the conical twin screw, it is necessary to measure the center height of the screw using a height ruler. Once you have the height of the screw, you must place the screw on the barrel and line up the left and right conical twin screws. Then, insert the tip of the screw into the small end of the barrel.

In the case of the right-hand-side-feed version, the barrel will be of larger diameter than the left-hand side. Using this configuration, the feed rate will remain the same. However, the discharge end will be smaller than the feed end. This will reduce the heat generated and rotational shear.

Specifications
Conical twin screw barrels are available in various sizes. They are made of 38CRMOALA alloy steel. They are qualitative processed, nitrided, ground and tempered. Moreover, they are available in different compression ratios and designs. These features help the screw to have better service life. The mouth is also made of alloy steel. It is available in O58/124, O60/125, and O65/120.

The conical twin screw barrel has a large working torque and is an important part of the extruder. This type of barrel is far superior to its parallel counterpart. The main advantage of a conical twin screw is the high working torque.

Application
There are many advantages of using conical twin screw barrel. However, the barrel must be maintained properly to maintain its optimum performance. There are several problems that can occur due to improper maintenance. These include improper contact, melting escape groove, and caliber part deformation. To avoid these problems, it is important to check the threaded part and the sealing surface on the side of the barrel on a regular basis.

Screw barrels can be manufactured in various designs and materials to suit different applications. They are available in various diameters and l/d ratios. They are also available in a range of alloys and welding techniques.
